Bob Jones of www.AskBob.aero brought up (and answered!) an excellent Facebook question.

Unfortunately, I’d already produced the Facebook lesson in the Aviation Marketing Master Class materials for the month, but this is too good to miss, so here it is:

One of the things about Facebook is the ability to make a web page interactive, by inviting visitors to click a button that indicates they “like” the content.  You can see an example at the bottom of the page.  Click it to see how it works. (And because you like the page.) 🙂

Bob has discovered a way to add a Facebook “Like” button that refers to a web page, rather than to the Facebook Fan Page.

When you use the Facebook “Like” creation widget you are asked to put in a URL.  In the past I always used the Facebook Page URL.   For one site I tried just using the website URL and sure enough I got a Facebook Like widget for the website.

It is a full “Like” widget that shows how many “Likes” the website has received and allows website visitors to click and show they “Like” the website.  It is a easy way to add Facebook to a website without making a Facebook Page. Only drawback is there is no Status publishing (that I can find anyway).  It is a easy step that integrates the Facebook “Like” feature  in a website as long as they do not want to publish status updates (a big minus in my books). I guess if all you want to do is show you have “fans” using the website URL in the “Like” widget is OK.

So, you can use some Facebook functionality without even having a Facebook page!
